Dent’s Artillery, SCV Camp #486 of Eufaula, Barbour County, Alabama is pleased to host the 2010 Reunion of the Alabama Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Eufaula is a beautiful, well preserved, historic town with over 700 buildings that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Eufaula played a significant part in the War Between the States both politically and militarily.
The Governor of Alabama during the War, John Gill Shorter, was from Eufaula. He is buried in the Shorter Family cemetery in Eufaula. He is one of six Alabama Governors from Barbour County.
Brigadier General Alpheus Baker, CSA and Major General Henry Delamar Clayton, CSA were from Eufaula. General Clayton is buried in Eufaula’s Fairview Cemetery.
Eufaula’s local militia company, The Eufaula Rifles, served as the color guard for President Jefferson Davis’s inauguration in January of 1861.
LAKEPOINT RESORT: The Alabama Division 2010 Reunion will be held at Lakepoint State Park Resort Lodge and Convention Center. MEALS: Lakepoint Resort will provide a catered luncheon and the banquet dinner. Lakepoint Resort’s Water’s Edge Restaurant, overlooking Lake Eufaula, is open three meals a day. The Pier’s End Bar & Grille, off the Lakepoint Resort main lobby, is open in the evenings. We will have breakfast on our own in the Water’s Edge Restaurant.
COMMANDER’S RECEPTION: The Commander’s Reception would be held at the 1850s Italianate mansion, Fendall Hall. Fendall Hall is the family home of Captain S. H. Dent for whom both the Eufaula SCV Camp #486 and the Eufaula UDC Chapter take their name. Fendall Hall is owned by the Alabama Historic Commission. It is beautifully furnished with Dent family furnishings and even has Captain Dent’s Confederate Battle Flag on display. Fendall Hall is located in the Historic District in downtown Eufaula. It is eight miles from Lakepoint Resort.
BANQUET: The Saturday evening banquet will be held in the main Elm ballroom room at Lakepoint Resort. The room will sit 250 people for dinner. We will have a seated dinner with guests being served at their tables. We will have a set menu. Guests will be given the choice of broiled fish or rib-eye steak if they pre-register. The dinner will include salad, entree, vegetable and potato, rolls and butter, dessert, water and tea or coffee.
The banquet speaker would be Mr. Mike Bunn, the Curator of History at the Columbus Museum in Columbus, Georgia. Mike is a well know author and speaker. His topic will be: The "Eufaula Regency": Alabama’s Most Celebrated Secessionist Faction.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: The Sunday morning memorial service will be held in the Confederate section at Fairview Cemetery in the Historic District in Eufaula. There are 341 Confederate Veterans buried in Fairview.
TOURS: A tour of the Eufaula Historic District and Shorter Mansion will be held for spouses and guests on Saturday morning. Tickets will be pre-sold for the tour.
